About Incognito mode, InPrivate mode, and Private mode

We recommend that you disable access to Incognito mode [Google Chrome], InPrivate mode [Microsoft Edge], Private mode [Firefox and Safari] and guest mode [Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge] on all end-user devices - thereby preventing end-user access to these modes.

However, if end-users in your organization need access to Incognito, InPrivate, or Private modes [for example, for web developers], instead of disabling access to these modes, it is possible to deploy the extension in these modes too.

The extension can be added to Google Chrome in Incognito mode, Microsoft Edge in InPrivate mode, Firefox in Private mode, and Safari in Private mode - only if this functionality has been allowed by the end-user. You can perform the configurations that are referenced below to enable the extension to be added to browsers in Incognito, InPrivate, or Private modes.

  • For information about additional "hardening" procedures for the browser extension, see Strict enforcement of the browser extension.

  • When the extension is deployed in each of the above modes, the extension will function similar to its regular operation - with minor differences.

Note: On this page, the "regular browser" refers to a browser that is not in Incognito, InPrivate, or Private modes.

Enabling the extension to be added to Incognito, InPrivate, and Private modes

You can enable the extension to be added to Incognito, InPrivate, and Private modes - after the extension is already installed in the regular browser.

First, open a browser [on which the extension is already installed] in regular mode.

For information about how to enable the extension to be added to Incognito, InPrivate, and Private modes, refer to the official documentation for each browser:
